about
I have always had this combination of interest in things both technical and creative. Some days it feels like a blessing and other days a curse. I think most people that know me personally would consider me to be a creatively intense geek, if that makes any sense. Most of what I spend my time on involves visual creativity or music, then ultimately ends up using several computers. I guess that’s what drew me to the Visual Effects/Animation industry.
Film and Television
I’ve been working in the film and television industry for about 12 years. I am what’s usually referred to as a CG Generalist. I end up doing a little bit of everything. Modeling, texturing, rigging, animation and compositing. As a freelancer it’s easier to get work if you know how to handle a few areas. I would say my strong points are 3D animation, modeling/texturing and lighting. Most of my work is remote freelance, meaning I work alot from my home. I do end up doing a bit of traveling every once in awhile for those special jobs, but for the most part I like working remotely.
A few of the movies and television series I’ve worked on are:
Sin City, Spy Kids 2, League of Extrodinary Gentlemen, Underworld 2, Snakes on a Plane, Stargate SG-1 and Dark Angel.
Art and Photography
Now that I’ve been doing that for a few years I’ve really been feeling like I need to get back into more creatively stimulating areas. I actually started off earlier in life doing alot of wildlife painting. I had a few paintings critiqued when I was 17 by one of my favorite wildlife artists, Robert Batemen. Unfortunately I haven’t had as much time in recent years to continue in this area.
In the past few years I have discovered a love for photography. Mostly in the nature category. My father had actually been quite involved in this field while I was growing up, but I found it frustrating to wait to develop pictures to know if I really got what I was after, and I lost interest quickly. Then came digital cameras, printers and my favorite program in the world, Photoshop. Wow. Everything I always dreamt about. I could see my results instantly, tweak it in Photoshop and then print in out on an inkjet printer. No waiting required.
Music
Now during this whole 20 some year period of my life I have also been very involved with music. I love singing and playing guitar. No not little girly acoustic guitar (no offense to girl acoustic guitar players) but I like to feel my insides move while I play a loud nasty chord. It’s a huge release like nothing else I do creatively. So much so that it has always held it’s own reserved place in my life. I’ve juggled tours and recording with my other careers ever since I bought my first electric guitar. You can find more information on the music area of my site.
That is a summary of my creative life. I am also very happily married to the most talented and caring man I know. He shares my love of music and produces, writes and records for many other talented artists. You can also find out more about him at www.myronwegner.com.
